Mercedes Benz 300 SL?

I was searching the web for available 300 SL's when I came upon a website that posts antique cars that are for sale...in Europe. One of the 2 models which were available had a description that stipulated that it had been restored, and was in very good but not immaculate shape and had a new engine installed 5 years ago. It also said attractive price, which was not stated (you have to enquire for the price). However, under the pictures for the car, there was a white sheet that provided info for the car; under Price of Car it said $5,500.00 . I don't understand how this is even conceivably this cheap. can someone explain. I know for a fact the website isn't fraudulent and that I would be buying the entire car, not just the chassis.

I don't think you are looking at the 300SL you are thinking of. In the 80s and 90s, Mercedes made 6 cylinder versions of the SL. You want THE 300SL from the 50's I'm assuming. There's no way they would find a "replacement" engine for that car in this universe. So.....better keep looking. Check out this site for the real deal on all the SLs. If you find a 50's SL Roadster or Gullwing for under $100k, let me know. I'll take 2.
