How do I become an Auto Mechanic in Texas?

Hey, I have been interested in cars for a long time now (starting by watching my uncle completely restore a classic Ford truck from the frame up), and I have been considering becoming an auto mechanic as a career, because I enjoy working with my hands, and I love cars. Anyways I just wanted to ask a couple of questions:
1. How long is auto mechanic schooling?
2. Can I go to a community college or would it be better to try and find a specialized school?
3. Is schooling really worth it (I am thinking yes).
4. Aaaaand Finally, if you are in Texas is there a particular place that you recomend? I am in the Fort worth/Dallas area.

Thanks for taking the time to look and hopefully answer these!

Going to school is the best option. Don't go to places like Lincoln Tech, they cost way to much and you don't get near the education, went there for 6 mo., however, I transferred to Texas State Technical College in Waco, and finished with an AAS degree in automotive technology, I should have done that first and saved myself a lot of money! Their whole system was far superior! I think you can get a certificate in 1 yr. and a degree in 2, just give them a call and they will provide all information. I have and do recommend them. Also check with your community colleges, their programs may be just as good. Take a visit to several campuses and look at what they have to offer before deciding, and do discuss cost and financial aid.
