NEED INFO!! 1986 GMC K2500 Sierra Classic AUTO HUBS/MANUAL HUBS QUESTIONS??? NEED HELP!!?
My 1986 GMC K2500 Sierra Classic came with automatic locking hubs and I hate automatic locking hubs because they are unreliable. Is it possible to remove the automatic hubs and replace them with manual locking hubs, how much work is involved in replacing auto-hubs with manual hubs(what steps do you take in replacing auto-hubs with manual hubs?), and how much would it ruffly cost to have a mechanic do the job????? ANY INFO ON THIS SUBJECT WOULD BE APPRICIATED!!
yes you can and most have already been swapped. buy set of WARN hubs from summit racing or any place like that as a kit and then find someone like me who owns a private shop and knows about the old chevies and can put them on for you for about 75 bucks labor at the most.
have to remove all the allen head screws around the hub and then parts under that, the auto locking splined parts on the outer stub shaft. asnd replace with the manual parts and hub. use lots of chassis grease.
my stepdad has an 82 k-10 and he purposely wants to keep the auto hubs on his because he doesnt like to get out of the truck and lock them in
but they do fail sometimes and cause some noises
he wants to find brand new auto hubs for it but i have not found any yet for him
