Those looking to buy a used sports car are very familiar with the ultra-classic Chevrolet Corvette, This is one of the few models that have managed to stand the test of time. And adapt to the changes that have transformed the used auto industry over the last 55 years that the almighty "Vet" has been part of the used car motoring scene.

The modern used Chevrolet Corvette features a projection system for on-board data display onto the windshield, designed to let the driver keep his eyes on the road at all times. Good for day and night, and it is steerable, so that the engine speed, oil pressure, speed and the basic parameters of the machine are available to drivers, as found in a fighter aircraft. If you are search the classifieds or trawl your local used auto dealers the most likely engine you will find in a used corvette is the 5.7L version that gives out 340 hp, which is a very powerful motor but it does devour gasoline. But this is a sports supercar, the brand has introduced numerous nuances in this legendary small block, aimed primarily at a sweetened response, to make it more pleasant and above all cleaner in terms of its CO2 output, fast becoming a major part of used vehicle considerations.

The latest engine is a 427 cubic inch 435 horsepower with the new system of no less than three twin barrel Holley carbs, although a rare L88 model was offered, with the help of a single quad-carb from Holley, which is capable of a whopping 560 horsepower. Although the GM listed its output at 430hp, they indicated that this model was strictly intended for operating on a closed circuit, and not to be used on the road. And we are sure that anyone who could get behind the wheel of such a used dream car would not want to show it off on the open road, then again.

If the truth is told, it is the name that is perhaps one of the main attractions of a used Corvette. It has a certain appeal that comes from its very long history and many people strive to buy a used Corvette because it was the first car that interested them when they were children or perhaps their favorite uncle owned one. This is a used vehicle that is very much built on history and reputation.

But on balance, we are talking about a V8, which already was an old acquaintance in the fifties, when it was introduced in the first Corvette. You can not go wrong with any generation of the stunning used Corvette; just take a trip around the used car dealers to see what is available.

Oil change caused motor to blow.....what do we do now?

We bought our car April 2008, and now it's March 2009. We got our oil changed at Classic Oil and Lube two times since being back in Texas. We never had any problems until this past Friday. The motor blew! We last got our oil changed 2/11/09, and the motor blew 3/20/09....called Classic Oil and they said that a rock put a crack in the cap of the filter (which isn't the case). Went to Mazda dealership and got a tech to see how the crack was caused......wrote a statement saying "over a period of time the oil cap cracked due to the usage of the incorrect tool for removal and replacement during routine oil changes over a period of time." Total repair for the motor is about $8,100.
So like I said we got the last 2 oil changes from Classic Oil, do you think another place could of possibly been at fault as well? Cause we never had any problems til now. So what should we do now that we have the statements for the Mazda dealer?

I don't know what is OIL CAP.

Is that the filter?
Oil filler cap?
Oil drain plug?

Filters are thrown out every time so "over time" doesn't apply.

Oil filler cap is opened by hand (easily). And even if it was opened by using a tool, it is difficult to prove THEY did it.

Oil drain plugs are like bolts. Use of wrong tools doesn't make them leak.

And you can see why it would be difficult to prove they caused the problem. And to tell you the truth, I don't think that oil change place caused you engine to blow. You don't say how old your car is. Also some time engines blow, even if nothing wrong was done to them.

again how old is the car? Did anybody EVER touch / repair the car?

I don't mean to beat up on you, but I don't think you've even proven your case to somebody impartial (me). So you need to prepare a better case if you want some $$$
